Cybersecurity and the RED Directive: Celab hosts technical seminar on March 20, 2025

On March 20, 2025, Celab hosted a technical seminar at its Latina headquarters, focusing on the recent regulatory developments in the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), with particular attention to the new cybersecurity requirements.

In recent years, the RED Directive has been expanded through delegated acts that introduced cybersecurity as an essential requirement for a wide range of radio equipment. This regulatory evolution marks a significant step forward in the protection against cyber threats but also presents considerable challenges for manufacturers, who must ensure compliance by the upcoming August 1, 2025 deadline.

The seminar was led by Eng. Massimiliano Bertoldi, a professional with over 20 years of experience in the working groups of RED and EMC Notified Bodies, and currently serving as chairman of the group. His presentation provided participants with a clear and up-to-date overview of:

  • the current status of harmonized standards related to cybersecurity (still pending publication in the Official Journal),
  • the practical implications for design, production, and conformity assessment,
  • and strategies to effectively manage the upcoming compliance transition.

In a regulatory context that is still evolving and lacking consolidated references, Celab aimed to offer a practical and authoritative resource to support manufacturers in understanding the impact of the directive and preparing for its implementation.

The event was well attended by industry professionals, highlighting the need for targeted training and opportunities for technical discussion on a topic that is becoming increasingly strategic for the future of the electronics and radio equipment industries.
